縱膈腔腫瘤好發於年輕人，可能與基因有關。
通常前期症狀不明顯，藉由胸腔X-ray發現。需要更近一步確診，會使用細針穿刺或是麻醉手術取得切片。
鑑定出何種腫瘤後可以開始治療。
